hey there,

Happy MS Awareness Month?

Still seems weird to say. To be happy about a month that brings awareness for a disease that I am acutely aware of everyday.

But I’ve learned over the years that this month isn’t for me.

It is for everyone else that DOESN’T have this.

My thoughts and feelings about this month have certainly shifted over the years. Originally, I hated it. I hated seeing the facts, the myths, the increase in ads and stories. It just reminded me of what I lived with daily.

“Why do I need awareness for something that I’m living??”

But I don’t need the awareness. I know what this is like. My husband doesn’t need it, he knows this all too.

But who this month IS for, are for the people who don’t quite get it, or who don’t get it at all.

The employer who has someone with MS on their payroll, who thinks they are just looking for an afternoon off, when they ask to go home early due to being in so much pain they can’t see straight.

The “friend” who rolls their eyes and audibly sighs when their friend with MS cancels plans again, because they can’t get out of bed.

Or the spouse, who thinks their loved one is just making it up when they say they can’t feel their legs, and ask them to run to the store real quick for the dinner ingredients.

No, no, this month isn’t for me.

This month is for you.
