Healing through the Holidays
A challenge to help get you through the 2020 Holiday Season.
We start November 16th!
In a ‘normal” year, The Holiday season brings its fair share of stressors. But in 2020, we know that stress is going to be at an all-time high this season.
When I asked my readers if they thought this holiday was going to be more stressful, most of them said yes.
And it’s understandable.
The uncertainty of being able to see loved ones during the holiday season, potentially being out of work for many months and the fear of getting Covid, all have combined to make the 2020 holiday season that much harder.
This years challenge is going to look a bit different though.
Instead of focusing on in person events and how to navigate refusing a piece of bread for the millionth time, we are going to focus on managing our own stressful emotions and activating the parasympathetic system (rest & digest).
Being in the
parasympathetic mode is going to be key and making it through the holidays without an increase in symptoms or a flare. The parasympathetic system is our rest and digest mode, when our body is calm and healing itself. When we are stressed out, we automatically are kicked into fight or flight. When our body is in fight or flight mode, it’s focused on protection only, not healing. As you can imagine, this can have some pretty detrimental effects on our body.
Unfortunately, one of the worst effects is an MS relapse. Super stressful events and situations that have been linked to MS relapses. I know that when I’m super stressed, I don’t feel that great and I know this is the same for many other people as well.
This is why we are going to be focusing so much on managing stress and emotions.
To help you stay as relapse free as possible throughout this holiday season.
