I asked my instagram audience last week if they knew what brain maps are.
No one knew that our brain had maps!
Which is totally ok. There is a lot out there that we don’t know, we don’t know!
When we have an injury or pain in a certain area of our body, our brain creates a workaround and therefore our sensation and ways we move can be changed.
The workaround is often to rely on our eyes for information, instead of the body part for information.
Brain maps are essentially the brain’s awareness of our body in space. Sounds like proprioception, right? Because it parly is.
When we’ve been living with an injury or chronic pain for a long time, our brain can start to rely on other types of information (like vision) instead of getting information directly from the body part.
This leads to our brain feeling unsafe about movement, which, you guessed it, leads to more pain.
In today’s video I’m sharing a quick “exercise” you can do in the morning (or whenever) to help improve your brain’s maps and improve pain as well!
Send me a message and let me know how it goes!
