My life has been crazzyyy busy lately. Between wedding things, doctor things and just life things, my fiancé and I decided to celebrate my birthday a weekend earlier than it actually occurred this year. So last weekend he surprised me by a weekend away in Portland Maine. Neither one of us had been there before, so it was extra exciting. I am fairly good at planning vacations in general, so when he does it all by himself, he gets nervous. And this was no exception. However, he hit it out of the park! Granted it was a bit chilly, but whatever! The town was supppper cute! Little shops, cobble stone streets, brick buildings everywhere. Total charm. But the best part of all, the FOOD. There was gluten-free, grass fed everything everywhere!! I could actually eat! Our first dinner stop when we arrived was to the Sebago Brewing company. This was a stop more for him, but I was able to get a grass-fed burger, with brussels sprouts. Like seriously? At a Brewery? Damn Portland, starting out strong! It was so good. Taste was out of this world. The next day I hunted down one of THREE, yes THREE dedicated gluten free bakeries. It’s called Bam Bam Bakery. The feeling of walking in and not being limited was incredible. I could eat the entire store (if I wanted, I didn’t, I swear). I got several cookies, that were also uh-amazing!! My plan was to come back the next day and get some for the road, but when we did they were closed. Should have noticed their hours on the pamphlet Mon-Sat, which means closed Sunday. Duh. I almost cried. But that just means we’ll have to come back 🙂 but I digress. On to dinner. Dinner. Oh Dinner. We went to Vinland. A 100% gluten free, locally sourced restaurant. They serve small plates and you can choose to get 3, 4 or 5. We both chose 4. It was the most amazing dinner. Ever. The food was so fresh and delicious. Not to mention my pure joy about being able to eat it!! Sunday morning we found a good breakfast spot called Local 188. Great omelet and fantastic home fries. We shopped around a bit before heading home. It was a great weekend, full of wonderful food!! If you’ve never been, it should be on your list. Portland is very organic, gluten-free friendly and willing to accommodate! I’ll be back!
