Living a life with MS sometimes means needing assistance. Which isn’t a bad thing at all, we should be aiming to make our lives as easy as possible.
But what are the most helpful assistance devices?
Here are a few that I find useful!
Stainless Steel Water Bottle
Having access to ice cold water when it’s hot out is a must! It’s one of the fastest ways to cool our bodies down. A regular water bottle gets warm pretty fast, but a stainless steel water bottle helps to keep it cold for hours.
Swell and Hydroflask are great brands!
Toe/Hand Warmers
Idk about you, but my hands and feet are always cold. Even right now as I type this, even though it’s 80 degrees outside, my hands and feet are a tad chilly. You can only imagine what it’s like in winter! That’s why toe and hand warmers are essential!
Earbuds
A symptom of MS is often feeling overloaded in social situations or loud environments. I know I’ve felt overwhelmed in a loud room, anyone else?
Earbuds are an amazing way of removing yourself, without actually having to leave. I’ve been able to put calming music on and totally ignore my surroundings.
Sound machine
Sleep can be tricky for MSers. Unfortunately many of us don’t sleep that well. I’ve tried many things but I’ve found that having a white noise in the background is actually really helpful. I often use a fan or my AC for this, but a sound machine works great as well!
Body Pillow
Using a body pillow has dramatically increased my sleep quality. I’m a side sleeper by nature, so a few years ago when it got rather uncomfy, a body pillow changed everything. It puts you into better alignment, which means less pain.
Squatty potty
One of the most common MS symptoms is bladder or bowel issues and constipation is often a result. Using a squatty potty will put our bodies in optimal position for a bowel movement, so it’s easier and more natural to go.
Travel John
Now this might be the best invention I’ve seen! If you struggle with bladder issues, you’re no stranger to the dreaded “DO YOU HAVE A BATHROOM??” Sometimes the answer is a welcome yes, sometimes its a dreaded no. If you have the Travel John, the answer won’t matter! Obviously you need privacy to use it, but it could be a life saver.
Shower chair
Sometimes you just need to sit down, including in the shower. Having a sturdy shower chair might make it so much more comfortable for you!
MS might be hard to manage at times, but that doesn’t mean it has to be impossible! Utilize any and all tools you need to!
